WHY I CHOSE JOGA
After teaching yoga for a few years, I knew I was missing information that could make my classes more effective. I attended the JOGA certification in 2015 and found what I was looking for, in a language that made sense to me and it was packaged in a system that not only shone a light on individual weaknesses and imbalances but offered the tools to correct them.
Being able to help athletes take care of their bodies and minds inspired me to become a Head Coach with JOGA so I can train other coaches to do the same. I’m excited to help grow the JOGA team both locally and globally.

“Lisa was an important member of our CFL Ottawa REDBLACKS High Performance Team during my time as the Head Athletic Therapist. Lisa introduced JOGA to our football players and it was an instant hit because of Lisa’s coaching and technical skills - she truly inspired them. There’s no doubt Lisa significantly contributed to our players health and wellness. She’s a great team player and I to this day continue to recommend her skills and services. Some of Marcelo’s career highlights include: CFL Ottawa REDBLACKS (2014-2019), NHL Ottawa Senators Hockey, CFL Toronto Argonauts, OHL Ottawa 67s, and USPORT Carleton and York University, Humber College”
“Joga was like a blast of fresh air, a no-nonsense approach to strength, breath and flexibility without the mystic underpinnings of Yoga. Not that there is anything wrong with that but coming to the studio to improve my breathing on the bike, Joga seemed to be a better fit. The strength benefits of a regular practice are evident, but the real payoff is the ability to focus on the calming rhythm of the breath while everything is on fire. I’ve noticed that my recovery time between activities has decreased, and I know all too well that the extent and duration of injuries is lessened due to the increased flexibility that comes with regular practice. Lisa is an incredible teacher, interesting and thoughtful. She infuses her classes with energy, humour, and a genuine interest in the development of her students\athletes. She has an uncanny ability to tailor a class to meet the needs of individual students while delivering a challenging workout for the whole class. Don’t be fooled by her pleasant demeanor; she watches her students like a hawk, and her verbal cues are eerily precise. Very Highly Recommended, 110%”
“As an athlete in my early 60s, I have occasionally had injuries and issues that needed to be taken into account when doing Joga. Lisa has been able to modify and personalize my sessions to both accommodate for the issue and offer ways to strengthen and improve mobility of the areas involved. As a coach, she always manages to get you working hard while still making her sessions enjoyable, non-judgmental and effective. Lisa's knowledge of and passion for Joga is clearly evident in her classes.”
“My name is Tyler Russell. I play hockey for the Los Angeles Jr Kings. I have been practicing JOGA for over 2 years. JOGA has helped me get stronger, especially with the strength in my legs. I really enjoy doing all of the JOGA exercises along with the salutation and the stretches. I consider JOGA a secret weapon because my body is in pain during the workout but I know that the pain is what will make me stronger. My JOGA coach, Carlie Chiovetti, is awesome. She is great at teaching all of the exercises and really cares that we are making improvements every week to help me be a stronger athlete.”
“What benefited me the most is the way we worked on my posture. In addition to that, my hips and hamstrings were always tight in the past. Now they, never get tight and I feel very fluid.”
“To be successful on the field, you have to be both physically and mentally prepared! I believe JOGA is the perfect blend of recovery, performance, and conditioning. I love JOGA because it not only makes my body feel better, but it allows my mind to let go.”
“I was looking for something new and that made sense with how my players move. This is when I was introduced to JOGA, a movement based program to help my players recover and maintain strength and mobility without sacrificing time. I felt it was an effective way of training”
“When trying to establish a foundation of strength JOGA segments 1 and 2 are very good for teaching the athlete balance and body control. This helps to increase strength and explosive power down the line.”
“JOGA is different than a traditional yoga class as it takes into consideration how athletes move, train and digest information. It’s program based and encompasses all of the physical properties needed to support elite performance.”
“When I started with Jana this past summer I noticed an immediate improvement in the way I felt physically. She paid close attention to the way my body was built and my strengths and weaknesses, allowing me to work on and improve strength and mobility that would immediately help me as an athlete. The work was very specific and tailored to my position. I’m very confident that it helped me on the ice when the season started. I’m looking forward to working with her again in the future.”
“Yoga can be an integral part of the off-season training of any athlete. It is important, however, to find an instructor who understands the demands of your sport and the strength and conditioning program. Jana and the JOGA staff have a done a great job of tailoring a program to meet the needs of my athletes and are willing and able to customize their sessions based on my feedback.”
